KANSAS CITY, KS, September 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. H. Clarke Anderson, Professor Emeritus of Pathology, Harrington Professor of Orthopedic Research at The University of Kansas School of Medicine, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in pathology.
Dr. Anderson, who has been a pathologist for nearly five decades, possesses extensive research experience in bone development, and bone and cartilage structure and ultrastructure. He is best known for his discovery of submicroscopic extracellular nanoparticles called matrix vesicles that initiate biopmineralization. Dr. Anderson is a professor emeritus of pathology and Harrington professor of orthopedic research at The University of Kansas School of Medicine. In addition to lecturing, he oversees laboratories in pathology for second-year medical students and manages a research program in bone development, calcification and bone disease. He has been with the university since 1978.
In 1958, Dr. Anderson earned an MD from the University of Louisville's School of Medicine and went on to complete an internship in pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in pathology and served as chief resident of pathology at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases. Dr. Anderson received additional pathology training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is a diplomate in anatomic pathology of The American Board of Pathology and holds medical licenses in the states of Kansas, Kentucky and New York. His numerous professional affiliations include the New York Society of Electron Microscopists, American Society for Investigative Pathology, International Bone and Mineral Society, and The Royal Society of Medicine.
Through the years, Dr. Anderson has received a number of formal recognitions for his work. Most recently, he was named a Professional of the Year in Pathology by Cambridge Who's Who and selected for inclusion in Pro-Files Magazine, as well as Cambridge Publishing's "Top 101 Industry Experts" book. He is also a recipient of the Dolph Simons Sr. Award for Biomedical Research, the Biological Mineralization Research Award from the International Association for Dental Research, and the Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award for Orthopedic Research from the Kappa Delta Sorority.
