WASHINGTON, DC, August 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sabine O'Hara, Owner and Principal of Global Ecology LLC, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in international business education and sustainable development.
Dr. O'Hara is principal of Global Ecology LLC, and managing director and vice president of Professors Beyond Borders. Global Ecology positions higher education institutions and private, public and non-profit sector organizations for success by providing educational tools and planning and assessment services for negotiating a complex world and marketplace.
Dr. O'Hara is a respected author, researcher and higher education executive with experience in virtually every aspect of university administration, including curriculum development, strategic planning, program accreditation, international partnerships, development and marketing. From 2007 to 2010, she was the executive director of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the preeminent international exchange organization that administers the Fulbright Scholar Program and collaborates with more than 3,000 universities worldwide. Before joining CIES, Dr. O'Hara was the 10th president of Roanoke College in Salem, Va. She also held faculty and administrative positions at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and as visiting scholar at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
Well-known for her expertise in sustainable economic development, global education and executive leadership, Dr. O'Hara has lectured around the globe and authored numerous publications and research reports. A native of Germany, she earned a doctoral degree in environmental economics from the University of Gottingen, Germany. She sits on the board of directors of several national and international organizations, including the United States Society for Ecological Economics, of which she is a former president; the Council of Scientific Society Presidents, of which she is a former secretary; the International Advisory Board of King Abdulaziz University and the International Task Force of the American Chemical Society. In addition she serves as editorial board member and reviewer for several academic journals.
She attributes her success to the opportunities she has had throughout her career to collaborate with researchers and higher education executives all over the world. She firmly believes that education is not only about having our questions answered; it must also be about having our answers questioned. In the increasingly global world and marketplace in which we live, such questioning is facilitated by opportunities to collaborate with people and institutions in other cultures and contexts. International collaborations are therefore increasingly important to our ability to stay current, sustain creativity and innovation and succeed in a diverse and fast changing global marketplace. Dr. O'Hara intends to continue working in her field to assist organizations in becoming relevant and effective players in their local and regional context while also contributing globally. She also plans to expand her services beyond higher education and hopes to assist other private, public and no-profit sector organization.
