Alicia R. Martinez Distinguished as a VIP of the Year for Excellence in Education
Alicia Martinez harbors a passion for inspiring and nurturing future generations

MISSION, TEXAS, August 5, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alicia R. Martinez, Retired Teacher for Mission Consolidated ISD, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education.

As the oldest of 12 children, Ms. Martinez grew up teaching her younger siblings. Although she overcame the obstacles of being a migrant student, she never expected the success she experienced in her 31-year career. Today, she is a retired teacher who was recently honored by Cambridge Who's Who as a VIP of the Year for her excellence in education; a distinction she is truly proud of. Ms. Martinez taught fourth grade at Marcell Elementary School, where she provided instruction on subjects such as social studies, mathematics, reading, writing and the history of Texas. With rotating classes, she met with approximately 88 students per day. She also worked as an academic strategist. She previously taught third grade at Marcell Elementary School, as well as second grade at Flores Elementary School in the La Joya Independent School District.

In 1979, Ms. Martinez earned a bachelor's degree in education from The University of Texas-Pan American. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2000 by Marcell Elementary School. In retrospect, she feels that the most gratifying aspect of her career was having her peers seek her advice for guidance in their own classrooms, being able to inspire and nurture future generations, and create productive students who are now doing the same. Ms. Martinez attributes her success to the loving support of her husband, Refugio, and her sons, Hipolito Xavier and Eleazar.
