Ramona L. Frischman, Ed.D., Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Educational Program Development
Dr. Frischman's programs unite "youth and age in action" and have served as models across the nation

MIAMI, FL, November 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ramona Frischman, Retired Project Manager for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in educational program development. She was honored as a Professional of the Year for 2010-2011, and will be featured in the forthcoming issue of Cambridge Publishing's Pro-Files Magazine.

Prior to her retirement as a project manager for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, a position she held for 41 years, Dr. Frischman established partnerships and developed intergenerational and service learning programs. She was also responsible for consulting on behalf of these programs and writing grants. Dr. Frischman firmly believes that one person can make a difference in the world, whether that person is 16 or 86. She has found that intergenerational programs are extremely effective in addressing public policy and social justice issues. When older adults join youth to identify common concerns and propose changes to address these concerns, utilizing the curiosity of the youth and the wisdom and experience of the elders, the synergy of "youth and age in action" is a force to be reckoned with. Dr. Frischman has seen students change their career goals as the result of their participation in intergenerational and service learning experiences.

Dr. Frischman's programs for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth-largest school district in the country, were recognized nationally as models to emulate. This recognition generated funding and partnerships that elevated the scope of achievement and opportunities, both for students and for the district. Although Dr. Frischman has retired from the school system, she continues to foster intergenerational advocacy initiatives by volunteering with agencies such as the Gray Panthers, Retired Educators and the local Alliance for Aging.

Dr. Frischman earned a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University, having received a master's degree in reading from The University of Georgia and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Stetson University. She is a member of the executive board of directors of the Gray Panthers of South Dade and the Dade County Retired Educators Association, where she served as the second vice president. Among her many awards and recognitions are an Outstanding Community Volunteer Award, earned in 2008; a Hero Award given to her by the Miami Police Department in 2001; and a Regional Commissioner's Meritorious Service Award, which she also received in 2001. In 1992, she was awarded the 756th Daily Point of Light Award by President George H.W. Bush.
