Billie Porter Creates Beautiful Landscapes for Austin Schools

AUSTIN, TX, November 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Billie J. Porter, BS, Landscape Coordinator for the Austin Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in landscaping. He has been named a Professional of the Year in Landscaping.

Mr. Porter has 24 years of experience in landscaping and has worked for four years as the landscape coordinator for the Austin Independent School District, the fifth largest school district in Texas. Supervising the grounds maintenance for 115 schools, Mr. Porter oversees a crew of 50. He has also owned and run a private landscaping business for the last 17 years, BJ Porter's Clean Cut Lawn Service. He attributes his success to his hard work, dedication and love of landscaping.

Mr. Porter used to coach several sports, including high school football and track. Most notably, he coached volleyball at Stephen F. Austin High School, where his team made it to the state championship. He also achieved great things while still at school; he was an All American Track Athlete at Texas A&M and ran All State Track in high school.

Mr. Porter earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education in 1973 from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University, which later became Texas A&M University. He became involved in his profession because it was his childhood dream to both teach and do landscaping. He is currently a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Texas High School Coaches Association and AARP. In the future, Mr. Porter hopes to grow personally and be able to landscape full-time.
