QBC Renews Three Scholarships and Grants Three New Scholarships to Qatar Foundation Students in the 2011/2012 School Year
As part of Qatar Building Company's Corporate Citizenship program, the 2005 tradition of sponsoring students' education continues into the 2011/2012 school year at Qatar Foundation, with a total of 165,000 QR from QBC.

EDUCATION CITY, QATAR, October 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Qatar Building Company (QBC) continues the QBC Scholarship program at the renowned Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF) in the 2011/2012 school year by renewing three ongoing student scholarships and granting three new students scholarships, in an amount totaling one hundred and sixty-five thousand Qatari Riyals (165,000 QR).

Since the QBC Scholarship's inauguration in the 2005/2006 school year, recipient students have attended several prestigious institutions within QF. These include Virginia Commonwealth University, Texas A&M University, Weill Cornell Medical College, Carnegie Mellon University, Georgetown University, and Northwestern University. To date, the QBC Scholarship has helped fifteen (15) students achieve their educational goals.

Romy M. Haddad, Public Relations Manager at QBC comments: "These scholarships are part of our greater commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. At Qatar Building Company, we sincerely believe that education is the most honorable way to empower our youth and strengthen the next generation. We build infrastructure—whether a nation's or a child's."

Each year, the scholarships are granted through an application process that reviews the student's detailed disciplinary and academic record, along with their financial needs. The students are required to maintain outstanding academic achievement with no disciplinary or conduct demerits for the full year. This year, each of the six QBC Scholarship students will also be offered an optional six to twelve (6-12) week QBC internship during the year. This internship will give students a first-hand experience of the professional life that awaits them upon graduation.

Next year, the application process will be even more rigorous—students will also be required to write a minimum of one essay regarding their field of study and future plans. The internship will be a mandatory requirement for fulfillment of the scholarship criteria, and students will be offered priority for employment consideration in Qatar Building Company upon graduation.

According to QBC, the scholarships are distributed regardless of whether the student's major is directly relevant to the building and construction industry, as "nurturing every member of a society is part of the greater calling towards a better community".

The 2012/2013 application for the QBC Scholarship is scheduled to open as early as March 2012.
