October 20, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Seminole County Public Schools, in partnership with The Holocaust Center and The New Horizon's Program with The Center for Drug Free Living are launching a leadership and bullying prevention initiative for middle school students. Student representatives and school staff facilitators from each middle school will begin this project by participating in a day event at South Seminole Middle School. Participants will learn leadership skills and strategies that will teach them how to be "Upstanders" to bullying rather than bystanders. Students will work with New Horizon counselors throughout the day, learning the characteristics of leadership, tolerance and positive communication. Participants will hear a brief history of the Holocaust learning how to be Upstanders - to stand up to bullying, showing the connection between bullying, bystanders and the Holocaust. Students will be prepared to take their skills back to their school and spread the word to others. This will be an ongoing initiative throughout the year. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. on October 28th at South Seminole Middle School.

NOTE: Please contact participating organizations directly for more information.
