Cherie K. Miller Nominated for Georgia Author of the Year Award

ATLANTA, GA, March 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Author, columnist, speaker and board member of Legacy Educational Resources, a nonprofit organization specializing in writing effective character education lessons for public schools, Cherie K. Miller was nominated for a Georgia Writer's Association (GWA) Georgia Author of the Year Award for her book, BackWords: A backwards word list for gamers.

The book has been nominated in the Specialty Books category. The winners of the 2009 Georgia Author of the Year Awards will be announced on June 19 at the GAYA Awards ceremony to be held on the Kennesaw State University campus.

"My motivation for researching and writing this book was personal," author Cherie K. Miller said. "My husband and I are both authors and enjoy playing word games, like ScrabbleTM. When we play, we allow dictionaries because we like to increase our vocabulary and competitiveness. But it frustrated us when we needed, for example, a three letter word that ended in "Q". That's where a traditional dictionary fails gamers. With BackWords, gamers, writers, and poets can find words that end in a particular letter."

Besides being an author, Cherie K. Miller works at Kennesaw State University in the Masters of American Studies Program. She is also a blogger, having launched two blogs: www.enjoyyourwriting.com and www.pet-peeves.org . When she lived in Chicago, Cherie wrote a weekly column for parents called Kidding Around for the Sun Newspapers syndicate. She's also been published in national magazines, such as Group, YouthWorker Journal, Today's Christian Woman, and Focus on the Family's Single Parent Magazine. She and her husband Steve are the parents of seven sons who live on a lake in Georgia.

The Georgia Writer's Association was founded in 1994, sponsoring conferences, seminars, and monthly writing workshops. GWA is currently housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA.

GWA sponsors the annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA), first given in 1964 by the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists. Commercially and independently published authors from Georgia are eligible for nomination. Awards in a variety of categories are announced and presented at the GAYA ceremony.
